Lifestyle Newborn Session
FAQ
I think the most number of questions comes about with newborn sessions (and rightfully so). Many of you are brand new parents and on top of figuring out how to do the whole parent thing, you're inviting someone to come into your home to document it. No pressure right? Let me make it a little easier on you. I'II answer some of the questions I get the most.
What is a lifestyle newborn session ?
A Lifestyle newborn session is a photo session most often shot in the comfort of your home. These sessions focus on the first days or weeks of your newborn, capturing your family's life as you welcome this new little member. The intention is to document the uniqueness of this time and the little details that are easy to forget so that you can remember it forever.
What should we wear for our session?
1.Coordinate your outfits by finding a color palette you love and finding pieces that compliment one another. Avoid matchy-matchy and black as your main color. Soft, muted colors and neutral colors look great for my style of photography, please avoid bright/neon hues.
2. Layer and add accessories with a hat, headbands, necklace, jacket, or scarf.
3. Wear clothes that are fashionable, yet still functional for the location. Keep in mind we will be moving around!
4. When it comes to patterns, a good rule of thumb is have one or two patterned outfit for every three people included in the session. Floral prints, polka dots, plaids work great! Also, avoid large logos or licensed clothing.
5. Shoes! Remember that you'll want them to be comfortable as we move around, but please stay away from character themed shoes, athletic shoes, and bulky soles.
Most simply stated, you should be comfortable and not steal focus. Almost every photo is going to include that new baby, so you'd hate for your wardrobe to draw your eye away. This can be a comfy dress for moms and little girls or jeans with muted/neutral colors for dads. The vibe that I find photographs best is casual looks without bright/distracting prints or colors.
When do I need to schedule my newborn session ?
Lifestyle newborn sessions tend to be most often between 10-14 days of life. This is for a few reasons:
• At this stage of life, your little one is still really sleepy. It's just so cute.
• This is typically before the onset of the infamous "baby acne".
• Their face and skin have had time to
recover from the actual childbirth. The redness and bruising have had a chance to fade.
What do I need to do to prepare?
There is much less to do than you might think for a newborn session. There is no need to clean every single spot in your home. One easy way to prep is to walk around your home and think of some of the places where vou want nhotos to he taken. This can he in the nursery, parent's bedroom, or even just the places with the best light.
The second is to have any sentimental items ready to go. Items like handmade blankets, precious family items, or anything else that you want to use to include in your session
What if my house is dark ?
THAT IS OKAY. If I had to guess your home has a window or two right? The look of your session may not be bright and airy, but even with a small amount of light, it can still be beautiful.
Can parents and siblings be included ?
YES, YES and I'll add one more YES. Parents are part of the story, siblings are part of the story, and pets (if you have them) are part of the story. This session is about you and your family. In my opinion, it would be weird not to include them.
Can I extend my newborn session?
Sometimes shoot lengths are dictated by your baby. If your baby is content with being photographed we can continue (depending on the days schedule) however most of the time, infants will become fussy before the end of the allotted time.
